Belgium Gazette's Decree on Mandatory Structured E-invoicing for VAT

6 August 2025

In July, the Belgian Federal Public Service for Finance published a Decree relating to the mandatory introduction of B2B e-invoicing in Belgium, effective from 1 January 2026.

The Decree gives information on the e-invoicing obligations including invoice formatting requirements, the use of the approved transmission system (Peppol), how to round VAT charges on invoices, and the penalty regime for non-compliance.

Under this new regime, all resident VAT-registered companies will be required to issue invoices in electronic format when selling to other businesses and submit these invoices to the Belgian tax authorities for verification via a new e-invoicing platform.
