Finland proposes changes to its reduced VAT rates

1 August 2024

The Finnish government recently released a draft bill proposing an increase on the reduced VAT rates applied to specific supplies from the 10% category to the 14% category.

If accepted this new rate will apply to:

  • Accommodation services
  • Admission to cultural events
  • Books
  • Cultural and sports activities
  • Imported artworks
  • Medicines
  • Passenger transport services

The bill also proposes a VAT rate reduction on menstrual pads, incontinence pads and child diapers from the standard rate of 24% (due to increase to 25.5% from September 2024) to 14%.
