Morocco introduces VAT on e-services for non-resident providers

28 February 2024

From 14 February 2024, Morocco introduced VAT at 20% on the sale of digital services by non-resident providers to local consumers.

Previously, foreign businesses providing digital services to consumers in Morocco did not have to charge VAT on their sales. However, by implementing this new tax it removes the unfair advantage that this gave to non-resident companies over resident providers.

Non-resident providers will have to VAT register in the country via a local fiscal representative from the first sale that they make as there is no VAT registration threshold.
