UK launches 12-week public consultation on electronic invoicing for B2G and B2B transactions

3 March 2025

HMRC and the UK Department for Business & Trade have launched a 12-week public consultation on standardising and possibly mandating B2G (Business to Government) and B2B e-invoicing.

By introducing e-invoicing, HMRC hopes to significantly reduce administrative burdens for businesses, improve cash flow, boost productivity, enhance automation, and minimise tax return errors. They hope to generate cost savings for businesses and address the UK’s £8.2 billion VAT Gap.

The consultation will collect feedback from businesses on how HMRC can support investment in and encourage the use of e-invoicing.
