Belgium publishes new mandatory structured e-invoicing guidance

31 October 2025

The Belgian Federal Public Service Policy and Support published new FAQ’s relating to the 1 January 2026 launch of mandatory B2B structured e-invoicing.

The guidance covers transitional issues including data to be shown on e-invoices, how to issue credit notes, how to opt to use the Peppol e-invoicing system and waivers from penalties that will apply for businesses who have missed the deadline to set the system up but have made efforts to comply with the regulation.

Under this new regime, all resident VAT-registered companies will be required to issue invoices in electronic format when selling to other businesses and submit these invoices to the Belgian tax authorities for verification via a new e-invoicing platform.
